Philosophy, AI, and Digital Humanities

My work sits at the intersection of philosophy and software engineering. I am currently researching value-alignment in large language models, and I have a particular interest in the use of natural language processing and other emerging AI methods within humanities scholarship.

Recent and current work includes a digital humanities project with the University of York and the architecture and delivery of AI-powered tooling at Open Data Services. I have spent more than a decade as a software engineer and technical architect, taking work from early prototypes through to production systems. I am familiar with the rhythms of academic projects, including funding applications and compliance.

I take on a limited number of collaborations on digital humanities projects each year, particularly in philosophy, theology, and the history of ideas, alongside my engineering work and research. Enquiries are welcome at digitalhumanities@simonkittle.com.
